Mid October Jack developed a cough and flu like symptoms. A trip to acute care ruled out COVID-19 and he was diagnosed with walking pneumonia and given antibiotics. Weeks went on and he was not getting better.
On November 11, Jack and his wife Elise welcomed their third child, a baby boy, via Cesarean. They went home to join their two daughters on November 14th.
What started as a normal Monday ended in a nightmare. The night of November 15th, Jack noticed severe swelling in his lower right leg joined by the shortness of breath and cough that he had been dealing with since October. He decided to go to the ER to get it looked at. At 2:00 am he was admitted to the hospital where he was diagnosed with Level 4 Heart Failure. He was discharged Wednesday the 17th and went home. That afternoon he had a stroke and was transported by ambulance back to the hospital. He was admitted once again where he stayed for 3 days. Many tests have been conducted but the family is still without answers. A week later his lungs filled with fluid and he needed to receive IV medication in the ER to flush the fluid out. The doctors and nurses are calling him the “Mystery Man” as there is no known cause for why this happened to a relatively healthy 31 year old.
Jack is currently off of work for an indeterminate amount of time while he waits on disability through his employer. Elise is currently on unpaid maternity leave until January. The medical emergency is taking a toll on the family financially and emotionally. Elise and the 3 kids are currently living away from Jack while he recovers.
There are a lot of unknowns, many doctor appointments, and medicines that are being tried. The family thanks you for your prayers and well wishes.
