My name is Bob Cook, many of you know me as The Cooker, a nickname giving to me by the late great Legendary Terry Funk in 1986 from my time in professional wrestling, and just recently, this past Tuesday Dec 2nd, I suffered a heart attack that completely turned my world upside down. Following the Heart Attack they had to put life saving stents in with the hopes I'll be on the road to recovery for a better quality of life moving forward. The suddenness of it all has left me and my family facing not only a medical crisis, but also a financial one. My wife has been my rock through this ordeal—she’s been by my side since it all started and must now prepare to take me to countless appointments, making sure I have my daily medications, and supporting me through rehab. On top of all this, she’s also caring for her 85-year-old mother and working her own job. The weight on her shoulders is immense, and I see how much she’s giving every single day. As if being in the wrestling business for nearly 45 years hasn't taken enough toll on my body this heart attack has been brutal physically and emotionally.
The costs will be adding up quickly. We’re facing medical bills, transportation expenses for all my appointments, and the daily costs of living that don’t pause for emergencies. Being uninsured has made everything even more overwhelming, and I honestly didn’t know where to turn. My wife is already stretched so thin, and I worry about the toll this is taking on her as well as on me.
The outpouring of love and support from friends and family during this time has been incredible. If I hadn’t gone to the hospital when I did, I might not be here today. It’s humbling—and honestly a little hard—to ask for help, but I know we can’t do this alone. Any support you can offer, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. I would be forever grateful and sincerely appreciative of any help you might consider giving. Thank you for reading my story and for being part of our journey to recovery.
