My name is Jackie Pierre. I am a 1st generation Jamaican-Canadian. I have spent a lot of my life traveling to Jamaica, specifically, the town of Trelawny. These funds will be going back to the community to help with basic essentials. As photos of the devastation that has hit Jamaica start to surface, the reality of this has become really real.

Jamaica is where my heart truly is. I spent most of my childhood in Jamaica, traveling every Christmas and or summer with my Grandparents. I grew up alongside my cousins and as an only child for the 1st 8 years of my life, they were more like siblings than anything. Jamaica is where my Grandparents were born and raised. Where they fell in love. Where my mom and my Aunts were born. All of my Aunts and my mom were born in the same house that we call home now in Jamaica. My dog is Jamaican! Jamaica runs through my veins through and through. I am so proud to be Jamaican.

Jamaica has given me the foundation of who I am today. Jamaica allowed my girls to see where their roots are from. Jamaica has given me so much, and it’s time to return the favour.

Our small little town of Litchfield in Trelawny has been completely ravaged, and was one of the worst hit by Hurricane Melissa. It genuinely makes my heart hurt. But with that, I am also asking for your help.

Litchfield is a small town in Trelawny which is in the countryside of Jamaica. Power is out most days, cell reception shotty at best and you’re lucky if you have regular wifi. It’s as country as it gets. It’s the community that I’ve always known and where my Grandmothers house stands today.

After seeing the photos of the main road of Litchfield, just up the hill from my Grandma’s home, my stomach just sank. These people need our help for the basic necessities and I for one can say that cash money is better than anything at a time like this.

I can’t save the whole island, but I can do my best to help the community that raised me. If you can and are able, please consider contributing to this cause.
