Help the Clarks Rebuild After Toxic Home Disaster

Meet The Clarks. ❤️ Please take the time to read this as it might just save you or a loved ones life.

Ken and Casey Clark are parents, first and foremost, loving spouses and self employed small business owners that are facing a very challenging time. They are giving members of their community that are always finding ways to help others, even when they've gone without and they need your help right now.

For years they have been patiently saving, sacrificing and waiting for the right time to purchase a new home. They just knew that they would "know" when it was time. Well in early 2022 Casey had a heart attack. She had previously had heart surgery at the age of 15 but never could have imagined a heart attack at the age of 36. It seemed unreal. It was a very scary time for their family and made them look at their plans a bit more intently.

Following Caseys heart attack they felt that it was time to re-evaluate waiting on "perfect timing" and to move forward on their home purchase, as it truly hit them about how quickly things can change.

Caseys heart was healing and they were looking forward to their next chapter. They found and purchased their new home and moved into it November of 2022. It was a beautiful new build with enough property for them to have their animals and space for the kids to run around. Everything was falling into place. They truly believed that this was a blessing and was just what they needed for Casey's health. Spending time as a family and making it their own was the vision. They dumped their life savings into this new home to make it their forever home. Their place that their kids could bring Grandkids to. This was it.

Within a few months of moving into their new home Casey began experiencing strange symptoms she never experienced prior. Casey began having seizures and tremors. Testing was showing nothing of explanation. Her health, over the following months, continued to decline. Emergency room visits became frequent while awaiting testing with specialists, but still no answers. Casey lost approximately 80lbs, pericarditis, loss of vision spells, severe headaches, weakness, fainting spells, body aches and pains, feeling of her skin being on fire, memory loss, severe GI symptoms, enlarged liver, new onset of food allergies and so much more. Drs engaged in test after test. Bone marrow biopsies were performed, brain scans, CTs, blood tests, PET scan, multiple colonoscopies and endoscopies, biopsies throughout her entire system. At one point, while awaiting an appointment for testing 2 months out, one of the ER Drs said that Casey was so ill that if a diagnosis was not found and treatment begun prior to that 2 months that he did not expect her to be alive by the time the appointment arrived. He called in a favor that day.

Testing was showing elevated Ferratin, elevated calprotectin, inflammation throughout her entire system, abnormal tissues in her GI system, bleeding throughout. Her body was attacking itself but no one knew why.

She was sent to University of Utah Healthcare for further evaluations. Along with this change came a costly change in insurance. Where they are self employed, their new insurance plan to be in network with U of U was just under $2000 a month. Between this cost, and fees to travel for healthcare, their savings for these items quickly began depleting. They still pushed through on seeking a diagnosis.

In the background, during this time, The Clarks notified the builder of their new home that it appeared some of the windows were faulty and installed incorrectly on their home. The builder acknowledged this and they were told the windows would be replaced. At the time, they naively thought it would just be handled under the builder warranty and everyone would move on. Given the energy and time going into health related items, the window topic became something that was expected was being handled. There was no correlation by The Clarks, at this time, to the windows and Caseys health. Casey still routinely checked in on progress of the status of the new windows.

If you know Casey you know that she is as hardworking as they come, will get up and show up no matter what. Casey was still trying to work and run their small business throughout this time period and show up for her kids and family. While she experienced better days than others, the true severity of her illness was seen by neighbors, close friends and family. Although her attitude that she could still do and handle everything was ever present, Casey's decline in health was severely impacting their business, despite Kens help in running things. Ken was now trying to essentially run the entire business himself while caring for Casey, homeschool their kids and manage their property.

During this time, Ken himself began experiencing health issues. Ken began experiencing severe inflammation in his chest and sternum. He also specifically began having heart and breathing related matters that led him to the ER on multiple visits. He was ultimately referred to a cardiologist and is currently on heart medication to help regulate his heart beat. At the time, Ken believed it to be stress related given everything their family was going through-they now know differently. He nonetheless continued to push on.

By mid 2024 both of the Clarks children were experiencing strange health symptoms. Both children experienced frequent and severe headaches. Their son, 11 at the time, appeared to be declining cognitively and experiencing frequent need for breathing/nebulizer treatments and eczema type rashes. While their daughter, 12 at the time, began having extreme anxiety, clumsiness, shortness of breath accompanied with chest pain and severe lethargy. Both children were seen in the ER and by Drs for symptoms. Still no diagnosis and with such differing symptoms, it was not looked at as one cause creating all of the families illness. It was believed by the family to be seperate and acute illnesses as there was not one known common factor of cause. Really thought to be just bad luck.

Throughout all of this, The Clarks were diligent about staying in touch with the builder surrounding the windows. Water began to intrude into the home. This was immediately relayed to the builder via photos and text messages. Multiple meetings took place surrounding it. The Clarks were assured that new windows were ordered so they requested an order number and arrival date. The Clarks were given a PO number for the windows from the builder, who received it from the manufacturer representative. The Clarks wanted answers and contacted the window manufacturer directly, who stated the PO number was fake and that no new windows had been ordered for their home. The builder was immediately put on notice of this and she proceeded to order new windows through a different company. This was over a year and half into The Clarks purchase. Frustrating is an understatement, but if you know The Clarks you know that their understanding and patient nature is ever present. They believed this would all be handled. After all, the builder admitted fault, in writing and assured them it was being taken care of.

By September of 2024, still with no clear diagnosis, The Clarks received a suggestion to test themselves for Mycotoxins. They had no real knowledge on Mycotoxins at the time. Where there was evident water intrusion into the home it was thought there could be mold. Where Casey was the "sickest" in the family she took the test. During this time they also sought out a specialist to come evaluate their home for possible mold.

September of 2024 is when their world flipped upside down. The specialist that The Clarks sought out engaged in an inspection that revealed far more than they bargained for. Not only were their windows leaking into the walls and crawlspace, but their entire crawlspace was full of mold. It was underneath the vapor barrier and hidden between the subfloor and insulation. Toxic mushrooms were found. Their tile shower pans were faulty and leaking into the subfloor. Their daughters bathroom subfloor and drain area was saturated, rotten and had clear evidence of mold. Samples were taken throughout the window areas, the crawlspace, the attic, the HVAC system etc.

The mold samples from their home, as well as Casey's Mycotoxins testing all came back. The results were devastating. Multiple specialists weighed in and it was decided that The Clarks needed to walk out of their home and leave everything inside. They did just that on September 13, 2024. While it was so very difficult to process this, as their home was clean, spotless actually, it was hard to wrap their minds around an invisible toxin being throughout their entire living space. The Mycotoxins were severe and widespread. While there was relief as to having answers, the grief soon followed. They quite literally had to walk out with not a single belonging. To wrap your mind around it, it is as devastating as a house fire, but it's all still staring them in the face unable to be touched. People will argue that mold cannot make you sick. You don't know what you don't know. This family is here to tell their story. There are others that are not. Mycotoxins can quite literally kill.

The Clarks, at that moment, came to terms that their beautiful dream home was the reason for the sickness. Given all of the findings, they had also decided that they should proceed with getting the septic tank pumped and inspected. To their dismay, their septic tank was broken and leaching endotoxins into the surrounding soil. The soil that is directly outside of the primary bedroom and crawlspace. They are awaiting the testing on endotoxin levels in the home.

Their home was toxic.

Some of the types of Mycotoxins found in their home are known neuro toxins. Ones, that when exposed to, can cross the blood brain barrier and wreak absolute havoc on the brain and cognitive functions.

It all sounds and seems so unbelievable. Especially if you don't know about Mycotoxins. They sure didn't. They sure do now.

Not only do they need financial help right now, but they want to make it their mission to raise awareness about this. Casey received suggestions of so many potential diseases that could be causing her symptoms. POTS, fibromyalgia, autoimmune disorders, gluten, etc. When really looked into, these "diseases" are not diseases at all. They are symptoms of a greater cause. Finding the cause is what saved their family.

The Builder was made aware of the findings and lawyered up. She has left the family of 4 to live in a 5th wheel with no remedy or end in site, while still having to pay their mortgage so they do not have a default on their credit.

The Clarks homeowners insurance will not touch the claim as it is a builder defect so they have zero coverage. Ironically, The Clarks even pay extra for mold coverage. They were trying to be proactive with their investment and yet still are left with nothing.

The builders insurance will not process a claim as they stated the builder is not cooperating with them in order to do so.

The Clarks are being forced to litigate if they want any resolution to this disaster. The medical expenses, now attorneys fees, additional cost of living while still paying the mortgage, mold specialists and specific healthcare professionals to help detox and heal the family are astronomical. They have been forced to start rehoming their animals and selling items to get by on a monthly basis.

They don't currently know the long term effects of the Mycotoxins on their health but they are proving to be detrimental.

In November of 2024 Casey experienced loss of vision in her left eye that led her to the ER. Upon an MRI at that visit it was found that Casey now has lesions present in her brain. She is currently awaiting her upcoming appointment with a Neurologist for further evaluation as to the extent of damage. One of the Mycotoxins found has a direct correlation to brain damage, presenting much like MS. She has also been referred to an additional specialist at U of U for the abnormal tissues found during her last capsule Endoscopy.

Their now, 12 year old son, has experienced a significant decline in his cognitive development and is also awaiting specialized imaging for his brain.

The entire family is undergoing special detox and treatment to heal. They are doing their best to come to terms with the loss of their home, animals and belongings. They all have faith that they will come out the other side of this experience. They might not be made whole again financially or emotionally but they are remaining positive.

Please, if you do nothing else and cannot afford to donate, remember this information. It just might help you or a loved one. They have already encountered multiple people throughout this journey that they have been able to educate and help.

Listen to your body, pay attention to how you feel in your home and surroundings. Never, in a million years, did this sweet family think that their dream home would be the thing that almost killed them and caused them to lose everything.

Anything helps and prayers are appreciated.
