Help Dylan's Bone Stem Cell Transplant Journey

Donation protected

Holy smokes, this has been a scarey journey. Dylan is still in Ottawa. Travel, car repairs, food while visiting. Time off work - reduced income. Mental and physically draining. Previous: Hi, my name is Amber. I am the wife of Dylan, the mother of Dylan's two beautiful younger children Sanford and Ruth.

What a roller rollercoaster.

Dylan has AMML. His wife has taken time off work to care for him as an out patient for the complex Malignancy unit. We travel every two days to the Cancer Center (88km round trip) for bloodwork, transfusions if required, and chemotherapy. Recently we have discovered he is not in "remission" percentage after first induction chemotherapy, but close.

Please see updates for latest updates on this journey.

Original Post:

Two weeks ago, Dylan was officially admitted to KGH with AML.

Over the last while, he hasn't been feeling right, and on 11/02/24 he went to get a Jerry can of gas for the ATV to head to the hunting camp on the evening of the 3rd, after celebrating his daughter's 4th birthday. Unfortunately, he didn't make it to the gas station, and instead made it to the Napanee emerge. This is where he started the admission process. With extremely high blood counts, signs of dehydration, he was informed he may have cancer.

In the wee hours of the morning, November 3rd, he was transferred to KGH Cancer Center. A bone marrow test confirmed AML. Other testing has confirmed that Dylan does not have a strong enough heart for regular chemo. Typically , the heart should pump at 55% and his is pumping at 42-45. He has to wait for funding to be approved for the alternative type.

During his time, he has developed a blood clot in his arm. The treatment plan as of right now is to wait for funding for treatment approval, clear the clot, balance his blood pressure and continue with keeping his creatine levels lower.

Dylans genetic testing has came back with mixed reviews, on one prognosis a rare gene marker showing great prognosis, and another(much lesser) showing poor prognosis.

At this point in time, we are reaching out for help to allow our family to visit more frequently. As many know, hospital visits are expensive. With the cost of gas and parking alone, these last two weeks have added up quite the unexpected bill.

This treatment once chemo starts, if all goes as planned,is expected to be a minimum of 4 weeks in patient aggressive chemotherapy to start.

Any penny helps. Words of encouragement, sharing, etc. Dylan's main goal is to get home to "the crazy house" as we always call it. The beagles, 4 year old and soon to be 7 year old (this week)..

Second to that, getting to his safe place

Thank you to all - words of encouragement, prayers, healing vibes, donations, shares, offerings of time, a voice of checking in. All of it is greatly appreciated and very much needed.

from our family to yours,

May you hold your loved ones a little tighter today.
