While my husband continues to serve faithfully as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, the emotional weight of our family’s suffering is something no service member should carry. It’s nearly impossible for him to focus fully on his Marines while worrying about whether his children — especially Emberlee & Ellie — are safe, or if the next emergency flight will be the one that they never come home from. No parent, no Marine, should ever have to live with that fear

May 2025, our lives changed forever. Our family, the Catos, lost everything in our on-base housing due to severe mold exposure. What we thought was a safe home turned into a health crisis that has shaken our world and left us struggling to rebuild from nothing.

Our daughter Emberlee has been life-flighted six times due to breathing complications and now lives with chronic reactive airway disease, all before she even turned ONE. Watching her fight to breathe and spend so much of her childhood in and out of hospitals has been heartbreaking beyond words.

The mold exposure didn’t stop there. Our other daughter Ellie Grace is now facing devastating health challenges of her own. She has lost all of her adult teeth because of long-term mold exposure and is now undergoing full-body MRIs and being seen by multiple specialists including infectious disease, rheumatology, and gastroenterology. Every appointment brings new tests, new worries, and new expenses.

The emotional, physical, and financial toll has been enormous. We lost our home, our belongings, and even our family car. We have been doing everything possible to keep food on the table as we face mounting medical bills, travel costs, and the basic expenses of starting over from scratch.

We’ve always been a hardworking family who believes in faith, perseverance, and community, but this past year has pushed us to our limits. Now, we’re humbly asking for help. Whether it’s a donation, a share, or a prayer, every gesture makes a difference as we try to rebuild our lives and give our family the care and stability they deserve.
