My name is Laura Metzger. I met Chris and Sarah Carpenter when Sarah and I were pregnant. We became each other’s found family and have watched our babies grow up together. We have vacationed together and made beautiful memories. They have been there for me and my family through the most difficult times in my life, including the death of my father, with unwavering support.

Chris and his family are fighting through one of the hardest seasons of their lives, and they need our help to keep going.

Earlier this year, Chris was hospitalized for his mental health and, with treatment, began making hopeful progress. But when he lost his job — and the disability income that came with it — in June, it set off a severe setback, sending him into a painful spiral of deep depression and anxiety.

Recently, Chris suffered a crisis-level relapse, and the family is now seeking longer-term in-patient treatment to give him the best chance at a full recovery. This kind of care comes at an overwhelming cost, and at the same time, Sarah has been carrying the household on her own — facing higher insurance premiums, growing medical bills, and the loss of Chris’s income — all while caring for their young son, Ethan, and trying to maintain a sense of normalcy for him.
