How do you write something about such wonderful people going through such an emotionally and financially difficult time? I suppose you can't go wrong sticking to facts and speaking from the heart. Ron and Flo Desmarais are honest, hard working, and generous people who always "played by the rules". They have given their time, emotional support, and money to help ANYONE who needed help...many times anonymously. Most people are familiar with Flo as the friendly cashier at Stadium Plaza CVS where she worked until retirement and from being an active member at Holy Trinity Parish in Lowell. Ron & Flo's children - Mike, Dave, & Anne attended St. Stanislaus School. Mike and Dave also previously attended Immaculate Conception School. Ron served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 12 years. He worked as a printer at Prince Packaging and as a medical repair technician at LoMedCo until retirement. Ron and Flo continue to help others even while being on a strict retirement income.They believe it is simply the right thing to do.
Well, now they need help. They have for years. But, when the idea of a gofundme to help them was brought up they did not want one. They feel everyone is having a financially difficult time and they did not help others expecting anything in return. THAT is why they deserve help! So we are doing this gofundme and they will hopefully see all the love and generosity they gave will be returned to them. Ron has been fighting his declining serious health issues for over 2 years. Unfortunately, all that can be done now is to keep him as pain free and comfortable as possible. He is receiving 24/7 care now which is extremely expensive. Because Ron and Flo have always fallen in the "make just over the amount to qualify for help, but make nowhere near enough to be able to afford it on your own" bracket they have been struggling for many years...all while still helping others! They believe there is always someone worse off who could use help. Because they saved a little money to pay for the arrangements of whomever passed away first they, once again, do not qualify for help. They are at risk of losing their house. Flo will give up anything to make sure Ron is comfortable. However, we do not want to let them lose the home where they raised their 3 children and spent close to 50 years of their 54 year marriage making memories. The Desmarais family should be focusing on spending time together with Ron with whatever time they have left and not worry about finances.
