Help the Canups cope with David's head injury
Donation protected
In late March, David Canup suffered a severe head injury when falling down a flight of stairs. It wasn’t until the next morning that authorities located his wife Nadine to let her know what had happened. She immediately rushed to a Jackson, Michigan-area hospital for what would prove to be a months-long experience of trying to encourage her husband back to health – praying for him, talking with him, playing his favorite music – as well as trying to work with the medical team to determine the best course of action.
The journey has already been a long one. And the toughest part may just be starting.
After being moved between several facilities, David was finally able to come home recently. That was a hopeful development. Unfortunately, since David has been home, Nadine has realized his needs are so extensive that she cannot possibly meet them in the home setting. Now she will be forced to choose a care facility for him, and this could run up to $10,000 per month. The Canups are not wealthy, and while there is a chance insurance and/or Medicare will defray some of the costs, it could come at the expense of some of their assets.
In addition to the income he earned, David was the primary handler of the family’s finances. Now Nadine feels overwhelmed having to make decisions about everything, from bills to the expenses involved with David’s care. She has expressed to us that, at times, she feels completely lost and helpless having to deal with all of this.
Nadine and David really need help.
If we can raise enough money to cover three years of long-term care, we would eliminate the need for Nadine and David to worry about the financial impact of the situation for the foreseeable future. That is why we’ve set an ambitious goal for this campaign of $360,000. Nadine and David are some of the gentlest, kindest people you could ever hope to meet, and the need they’re experiencing now is entirely unforeseen. It would devastate almost any American family.
Your contribution to this campaign will not only aid David’s recovery but also help ensure that the Canup family is not thrown into general financial distress due to the accident. We thank you for your generosity. God bless you.
