Update: The Cameron family is overwhelmed and moved by the support of the community. We want to share more about his passions that they plan to contribute to through this Gofundme. Owen was smart, a good athlete, and had a big heart. He cared about people of all abilities and loved his time on the unified basketball and volleyball teams. Unified sports is a Special Olympics program in schools that promotes social inclusion through sports. It joins people of all abilities. His love of sailing was clear at the community vigil 3/30/24. His PHS sailing team wore blue ribbons in support of Owen and his family. Many teammates and coaches spoke, sharing funny and touching stories. The Cameron's plan to use any remaining funds, after funeral and celebration of life expenses, to contribute to these wonderful youth sports that Owen loved. Unified sports and the Portsmouth High School sailing team are under funded. Sailing team participation costs can be a barrier for some student athletes. They would like to be able to eliminate the annual sailing team membership fee for one year or more. If excess funds are available, they would like to have a bench in Owen's memory at one of his favorite island spots. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
This GoFundMe is being established to support the Cameron family as they deal with the tragic loss of their son, Owen. Funds will be used for funeral costs, incidentals, and unexpected expenses that will come in the following weeks. Any excess funds will be donated to activities that Owen was proud to be a part of that are otherwise not funded with public dollars. Thank you to the community for your outstanding support. A celebration of Owen's life will be held on Thursday April 4, 2024 from 2-6 pm at Ocean Pointe Church in Middletown, RI.
