Help Finklea-Callahan family relocate.

Hi, My name is Star Finklea-Callahan. I am part of, what is now common and called, a sandwich generation household. Myself, my 85 year old mother, and my two daughters all live together.

My eldest daughter is currently pregnant and facing health issues but still working as of right now. We have faced hard times many times over, yet I have never reached out like this. This time though, I know we need a village’s help to get stable. I recently at the age of 46 went back to school to receive a bachelors in my true calling of social work. The life I have lived and endured has brought me to this amazing time. I start the Master’s program at FAU in May.

During a household bout with Covid our landlord informed us he was not renewing our lease and since we were, at this time, on a month to month, he gave us 30 days to move. We begged and he allowed us one more month. Well, we are in that month. Everyone knows the rising costs of rent makes it darn near impossible to move without a reserve of almost $10k. I’m not asking for that but I am asking for help. All we can spare is the money we normally have allotted for rent anyways. There is just no extra.

Y’all we need help. If I can manage to secure a place, which is challenging finding a 4 br house for all of us, we definitely would not have enough to get us in. I can’t fathom the thought of my mother experiencing homelessness at her age. Please look in your heart to help us however possible. I know as long as I continue to make good choices and move forward constantly that we will be ok.

I’m reaching out on behalf of our small but amazing little clan which also includes our animals that rescued us, 4 cats and a dog. I believe in humanity and the inclination of people to help others when they can. The overall goodness of people shines a light in the darkness so others can find their way.
