Hi, my name is Sandy, and I’m starting this GoFundMe for my dear friends and neighbors, Carlos and Sherunda Burgess and their family, whose home was tragically destroyed in a house fire on October 11, 2025.

The fire took everything — leaving them with only the clothes on their backs. At the time of the fire, Carlos and Sherunda, their three children Carmelo, Carlos Jr. (CJ), Carleena, and Sherunda’s uncle, Jake Miller, all lost their belongings. The children are students at Dumas Middle School and Dumas High School, and while they are trying to stay strong, the loss has been devastating.

This tragedy comes on top of an already challenging time. In June 2025, Mr. Carlos Burgess Sr. suffered a stroke and is currently in a rehabilitation facility receiving medical care. Meanwhile, Mrs. Sherunda continues to care for him and their daughter Carleena, who is receiving ongoing treatment at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.

We are asking for your support — whether it’s $5, $50, or any amount you can give, or even by sharing this fundraiser to help spread the word. Every donation will go directly to the Burgess family to help with:

    •    Temporary housing and clothing

    •    Food, toiletries, and other essentials

    •    Emergency expenses as they rebuild their lives
