At just 5 months old, Jayce Bruyere began a medical journey that no child should ever have to face. Doctors discovered a tumor growing from his skull into is brain- a tumor about half the size of his tiny head. The diagnosis:
Malignant Melanotic Neuroectodermal Tumor of Infancy, an extremely rare form of cancer. In fact, Jayce’s case was only the fourth ever recorded case in the world that doctors are aware of.
Jayce’s fight began immediately. He endured countless surgeries, and more than once, he was clinically gone- but miraculously brought back to life. His parents Gabriel and Jess never left his side as doctors worked tirelessly to
remove the tumor. Months in the hospital and many rounds of intense chemotherapy followed. Though the tumor was mostly removed, it had eaten away much of his skull, leaving lasting complications.
After a brief break from surgeries and chemotherapy, Jayce faced more procedures at the age of 2 ½ for reconstructive surgeries. Sadly, his body rejected his own tissue, leading to infections and multiple failed surgeries. Now, at
8 years old, Jayce is preparing for another major operation- a BMT Surgery- to finally correct the damage from his earlier procedures.
This life-changing surgery will take place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, 250km’s from the family’s home. Recovery is expected to take around three months, if everything goes as planned. During this time, Mom (Jess) will stay in the city/hospital
with Jayce, while Dad (Gabriel) remains at home caring for their other 3 children- Skylah (13), Daxtyn (12), and Caylix (6)- juggling work, school, sports, and traveling to Winnipeg on the weekend to be together as a family.
With only one income and the added expenses of travel, food, housing, and daily necessities, this loving family is facing overwhelming financial stress during an already unimaginable time.
We’re asking for your help to support the Bruyere family as they navigate this next chapter of Jayce’s recovery. Every donation- no matter the size- will go directly toward medical expenses, housing, food, bills, travel costs, and
recovery needs.
Jayce has already proven he’s a fighter. Let’s help give him- and his family- the stability and strength they need to get through this next battle.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and donating. Your kindness truly makes a difference.
