Hi, I am Regina, a friend of James and Julia Brown. I'm starting this Go Fund Me to help my friends ease some financial burdens that they have unexpectedly taken on during this past 6 months with no end in sight.
Six months ago, Jim woke up with excruciating pain in the left knee. They went to the hospital to have it examined and he in surgery with in 24 hours. After surgery and being in ICU for two weeks, 2 MRIs, 1 cat scan, several ultra sounds and hundreds of vials of blood doctors discovered bleeding disorder, an inhibitor which does not allow his blood to coagulate.
One month later, Jim's knee swelled and filled with blood again attacking his knee joint which at that time surgery number #2 happen to flush out knee joint.
Unfortunately, it happened again which lead his Doctor/Ortho Surgeon to refer him to Stanford. A team of Dr's read all Jims reports and was chosen by an Orthopedic Tumor specialist. The ortho Dr aspirated blood from his knee and sent it in for Culture. 1 week later Jim was back in surgery having his thickened synovial joint lining/tumor removed, 31 staples later, thank God it was Benign. He had moved on to physical therapy and the swelling went down.... they thought just maybe they were on the road to recovery. 17 days post op Jim woke up once agin in excruciating pain and a cantaloupe size knee that once again was filled with blood. Julia rushed him back to Stanford and Jim was hospitalized for 6 days where teams of orthopedic surgeons, hematologist, Rheumatologists, another cat scan and hundreds of more vials of blood were taken. All the teams are/were stumped and they added a rare infectious disease team. Jim was sent home with pain management 3/17 while all the teams work together to help with a firm diagnosis.
They were told in the meantime, if his knee joint is attacked with blood again he will undergo a full/total knee replacement so the blood can not attack his vulnerable joint. It was mentioned and it about sent them over the edge, after knee replacement if it happens again, Jim is looking at amputation.
Jims disability ran out a couple months ago and with all the traveling back and forth, hotels, unpaid Dr bills, daily living bills, gas and much more this family is in need of help.
I know most of you know this couple and know Jim as a 38 year structural Ironworker, a brotherhood, a friend, a family member, A Veteran a strong man that never thought he would have taken his ability to walk for granted. His strong work ethic and his eagerness to ALWAYS stay fit running, playing softball and doing cross-fit has come to and end for now with an no definite answer to an end.
Thank you for reading this and any donation big or small will help this family.
