On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Anastasia was diagnosed with acute leukemia. By Friday, October 17th, her doctors had admitted her and started her on a treatment plan at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland, California. Tests have shown certain biomarkers that suggest that her acute leukemia is treatable but there are many variables that play in to that. Her oncologist started her on an aggressive round chemo on Saturday (18th). Anastasia will be in the hospital for at least five more weeks to protect her from infection. The hope is that the various types of chemo they are giving her will lead to remission of the leukemia and she will be able to come home for further recovery. Eventually, it is likely that she will need a bone marrow transplant since that is the only way they can replace all of the cancer cells. To say that this will be a long road is an understatement. Anastasia’s doctors predict that she will be in this fight for at least a year.
Both Aaron and Anastasia's siblings are taking turns staying at their house to help with all things kid and family related. At this time, Aaron has taken a leave from work so he can be at home with their four children as well as travel to Oakland (1.5 hrs there and back) to visit Anastasia in the hospital. All of this places quite a financial strain on the family. They could use our help to make ends meet until Aaron is able to be back at work full time. The Brodeur family is especially grateful to all of you for the continued outpouring of love and prayers during this time. In addition to your prayers, please consider a one time or monthly recurring donation to help this wonderful family through this unexpected difficult time.
