My sister (Heather) and her husband (Rick) were on their way home from the "Thunder by the Bay" on their motorcycle when a van T-boned them on 301 in Sarasota. The vehicle that hit them left the scene leaving them ejected from the motorcycle. Heather was seriously injured. She had many bruises, scrapes, and multiple broken bones. She also had damaged tendons and ligaments. She has already had multiple surgeries. She has a broken femur, hip, tibia, fibula, ankle, foot bones, heel, knee, torn ligaments and tendons.
Heather is in the Nursing Program to be an RN and was to start a job at Manatee Memorial Hospital in March. She has worked in the medical field for about 11 years. She works at a nursing home and before that she worked as a nurse for a doctor. She is a hard working person that loved the outdoors and working out in the gym. She was a very active person with her 11 year-old daughter. They would go to the beach, gym, and park together. She is now left with the inability to work, do any outdoor activities, or put any weight on her leg for a minimum of 12 weeks. She will be out of work for 4 to 6 months.
Rick had many bruises, scrapes, a laceration that needed staples, a broken tibia, and much stress trying to help Heather and take care of their daughter. He has been unable to work this week and probably next week. He will have to find someone to help take care of my sister for a minimum of 12 weeks.
Their financial needs are extensive at this point. They have normal monthly bills, a mortgage, school tuition for their daughter, school tuition for Heather's nursing program, and the medical supplies/expenses now needed for Heather's care. They need funds immediately because all income has stopped abruptly for them due to this terrible accident, but the bills, as we all know, never stop. We of course need prayers and helping them financially would be a tremendous relief to such a horrible situation.
