Hi my name is Brett, I am fundraising for the kindest most giving mother I know. Back in June of this year my mother started her day just like any other. She woke up got ready and headed off to work. Shortly after arriving to work over the speakers she hears “can the owners of a green Ford Escape come out to the parking lot”. She headed outside to her car to find another car sitting on the hood of hers. A person had driven off the road, across the sidewalk, through a fence and crashed on top of her vehicle (June 2nd).
But this isn’t just about my mothers bad luck with her car. My father Bill Brickey got sick back on July 9, at first like many people would have we all assumed it was just a cold. After a week or so of bed rest at home and no real improvement he was tested for COVID, his test was negative so at that point he wanted to go to the ER because if it wasn’t covid what could be causing his illness. At the ER the DRs suspected his initial test was incorrect so they retested him. The second test came back positive and immediately admitted him to the ICU for treatment (July 18th). After his first week in the ICU we received a roller coaster of information. One minute we would get what we thought was positive information and the next minute we’re getting almost the complete opposite information. By the end of the first week in ICU he was intubated and on max support from the ventilator. We were told that unless he got another type of treatment (ECMO) chances of survival were basically none. The issue with this was the hospital that he was at didn’t offer this treatment and he needed to be transferred 5hrs away to Portland, to make this decision even tougher the DR didn’t know if he would even survive the flight. Fortunately they were able to get him stable enough for transport and safely got him there (July 23rd). He was assessed and placed on ECMO therapy the next day. Since the ECMO treatment has started he hasn’t necessarily declined any further but he hasn’t really started to recover either. We’ve had to have discussions with the DRs about what to expect over the next couple weeks to months and unfortunately one of those topics is that it’s a coin flip if he’s going to survive.
Now the icing on the cake,
In the middle of looking for a new car because hers was totaled from the accident and dealing with all the medical issues my father is facing she gets told by her landlord that she has 90 days to purchase the house (which is extremely overpriced) her and my father have lived in for the last 6ish years or find a new place to live as the landlord is facing her own health issues and has chosen to sell.
I’m making this page for her as she would never ask herself. I am not looking for a handout and we understand everyone has their own hard times. My hope is to simply ease some of this shit luck. If anyone who sees this or happens to know my mother and father and is in the position to help we would greatly appreciate it.
