Help the Brady's as Joel Recovers from Accident

This fundraiser is for Joel & Teri Brady, life-long Beverly residents and all-around wonderful people.

 

In late January, Joel was crossing the street with his son Kyle when he was struck in a crosswalk by a car going 35-40 mph. The driver never saw him and hit him, basically going full speed. Joel was rushed to a local hospital with multiple hip, knee, and leg injuries and quickly transferred to a Trauma Center in Boston. Since that time, he has undergone numerous surgeries to reconstruct his leg, including a hip and knee reconstruction and a skin graft. He had 4 major surgeries in 10 days during his 3 week stay in the trauma center. He has since transferred to an inpatient acute rehabilitation center, where they are helping him prepare to go home. His recovery is going to continue to be incredibly time-consuming and very difficult. He will be unable to bear weight on his leg for at least three months, he will be out of work for at least a year, and he will need additional follow-up surgeries. The doctors that have treated Joel’s injuries have called them “severe.” The pictures are gruesome.

 

Joel and Teri have a long road ahead as Joel works to recover. They are moving their dining room furniture to the garage so that once Joel comes home, he can get set up downstairs (he won’t be able to “do stairs” for a long time). Joel’s income was the primary one in the household, so they also face significant financial issues since he will be out of work for at least a year - most likely longer.

 

If you know Joel and Teri, you know that they are a light and a joy to everyone around them. And even through this accident and its aftermath, they have maintained their good cheer and faith in God as they have adjusted to a significantly altered life situation. They are optimistic, but they need our help.
