Wismy, originally from Haiti, relocated permanently to the United States in 2004. While vacationing in Haiti in May 2011, he met the love of his life, Joselaine. They maintained a long-distance relationship until they got married in 2013. They welcomed their first baby boy Josh in July 2014 and enjoyed being new parents. In November 2018, they decided to extend their family and were pleased with the news to learn that they were expecting their second child, which they gave birth to in August 2019. Late December 2018, Wismy felt excruciating pain on his right side of the abdomen. The pain became very uncomfortable until he decided to see a doctor. Diagnostic test results revealed that he was mildly hypertensive, had multiple cysts on his right kidney and his kidney function was mildly impaired. He was prescribed a blood pressure medication and was asked to adopt a kidney friendly diet and follow-up in three months. With the help of his wife he began to follow a healthy diet. While waiting for his three-month follow-up, his pain was intermittent, and he was slowly losing weight. At his follow-up appointment in March the doctor was concerned about the significant weight loss and referred him to a specialist for further diagnostic tests. A few days before his appointment his pain intensified, and he was vomiting. He went to the Emergency Room and a CAT scan result of his abdomen revealed a cancer that metastasized to his lungs, kidney, lymph nodes, and liver. Immediately, Wismy contacted Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and there he had a confirmed diagnosis of metastasized bladder cancer. Wismy and Joselaine were devastated to learn about the diagnosis and Wismy promptly started Chemotherapy. In August 2019, Joselaine gave birth to a new baby boy named Christian, but Wismy was unable to witness the delivery due to complications of his chemotherapy. On September 12th, Wismy was admitted at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for pancreatitis. Within that same week, he learned that his cancer continued to spread despite aggressive treatments. To make matters worse, Joselaine learned, the same week, about the sudden passing of her beloved mother in Haiti. She was unable to attend her mother’s burial due to political unrests in Haiti, and in fear that she would miss her husband’s final days. Wismy was discharged from the hospital on September 20th on home hospice after the doctors gave him only few weeks to live. Determined to spend his final days in his hometown in Haiti, Wismy asked his younger brother to take him home despite the doctors’ recommendations. On September 22nd, they flew to Haiti, but Joselaine was unable to come along as she needed passport for her newborn. She stayed behind with her two boys in hope to join her husband shortly after. Unfortunately, Wismy passed peacefully on September 23rd at the age of 42, just hours before his wife and two kids (5 years old and 2 months old) could join him in Haiti. Wismy's passing left his wife and kids in total distress and financial turmoil. The couple did not have the best insurance policy and their medical bills have skyrocketed in the past few months. This fundraiser is aimed at helping Joselaine cover some of the medical expenses accrued during her husband's treatment and pay for the kids' education. While the family endures this horrible tragedy, they are in desperate need of help. Please help us support the family by donating. Any monetary contribution is appreciated.
