Help the Bothma Family with Medical Expenses

This fundraiser is to help Larisa and Emil navigate their baby Arend’s medical journey following an immunodeficiency diagnosis that will require him to have a Bone Marrow Transplant. As much of his treatment and testing will happen in Vancouver, the funds raised here will relieve the financial burden of being away from home and not being able to work.

Unlike children that are born with a complete immune system, Arend’s deficiency makes him susceptible to infections that could be fatal. The bone marrow transplant will mean that he will be given a new immune system and after recovery, he will be just like any child when he starts school.

Larisa and Arend returned home in November after 1 month in hospital. He is still recovering and is doing well.
The team at BC Children’s hospital  are currently searching an international database to find Arend a Bone Marrow Donor. Once he is matched and the specialists deem him ready for the transplant, Larisa and Arend will endure a 100 day stay in hospital. Emil and Marita hope to join them in Vancouver during this time to support them.

As their extended family lives internationally and neither Emil nor Larisa grew up in BC, they are relying on each other and their community for support.

The coming years will be  challenging time and they appreciate all the help.
