Help the Boonie Dogs reach their furever families
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Anya Lewis. I am 12 years old and I love dogs! I am living on a tropical island called Saipan (for a four month long trip) where the temperature is always quite high. Living on this island, it is beautiful, and it is also hard to ignore the harsh conditions that stray dogs face. Since there is no vet on island, the dog population is overwhelming and there ends up being a lot of suffering. As part of preparing for my Bat Mitzvah this summer (a jewish coming of age ceremony), I am doing a mitzvah (good deed) project. Given my passions, devoting my time to help the stray dogs (or boonies) of Saipan is what I am working on. I am doing this by raising money for an upcoming flight that brings Boonies to their mainland families adopters and by supporting a spay and neuter clinic with a visiting vet. On Saipan, I have gotten to know an incredible nonprofit group here on Saipan, that helps dogs in distress and homes and nurses them until they can find their furever home, ideally on the mainland. It was started by a 20 year-old named Aria and her sister who currently have 60 dogs in their care. But there is another flaw in the system. The United Petsafe Travel Program is not open, making it very hard to fly dogs off island. Boonie Babies, the nonprofit I mentioned, hopes to fly around 26 strays off Saipan to their mainland adopters on Monday. Money is tight for this voyage, and you can help!
Here's what proceeds will go to. I have also included ways to help that doesn't involve money for people in Saipan and beyond.
$18 preflight vaccinations for one dog
$ 30 preflight tick and flea prophylaxis for one dog
$50 Transportation Fees for one dog in Hawaii transfer
$100 for the physical crate to transport 1-2 dogs- or a few puppies!
$ 200 cover flight for Dr. Turner, Guam vet, to fly to Saipan to complete required health certifications (because we have no vet on Saipan)
$500 cover all transit costs beyond Hawaii to mainland for a puppy
$875 cover all transit costs beyond Hawaii to mainland for a dog
Other ways to help:
Got time in the next few weeks on Saipan?
Foster one of the Boonie Babies in your home until the flight Aria and her sister are currently taking care of 60 dogs on their own at the Boonie Babies House!
Volunteer to help at upcoming Spay and Neuter Clinic January 24-27 (there are ways to help prep in advance if you can't come those day
Not on Saipan but want to help?
Spread the word about Boonie Babies! There are still dogs up for adoption including the one we first fell in love with named Scar (see photo).
Know an animal lover who is looking for an adventure while making a difference? Maybe someone wanting to do something impactful for a few months or part of a gap year and wouldn't mind living on a tropical island? Refer someone to volunteer at Boonie Babies as they continue to work to build a better future for the strays of Saipan.
Have airline miles to donate? Aria, the founder of Boonie Babies will be accompanying dogs on the flight and working to get them adopted on the mainland. Help sponsor her trip.
Transport and foster a puppy or dog in your home as they transfer through Seattle for connecting flights.
On behalf of the boonies, Thank you!
