For over 30 years my sister, Laurie (Singer) Bivona, has battled an invisible, chronic illness—Crohn’s Disease. At the end of 2023, she had a long hospital stay that resulted in a difficult major surgery. She also developed pneumonia while in the hospital which lengthened her stay. Now home, she faces a long recovery and needs your help as she also lost her job and doesn’t qualify for unemployment. Because of her surgery and recovery, she is not even able to begin looking for a new job for several more months. A severe blow to the family’s income.
Her surgery and recovery affect not only her, but her family as well. She has three amazing kids—Kerrigan (17), Calleigh (14), and Sam (12) and a wonderful husband, Michael Bivona, who are trying their best to be positive and keep the forward momentum going.
To make the situation more dire, her husband also lost his job right before Christmas and along with it their family’s health insurance. This has caused her to cancel follow up doctor appointments and her monthly infusions which would keep her Crohn’s from flaring again.
They are working on getting state aid to provide health benefits and help paying for groceries and utility bills. But these processes take time and the family is struggling. Even once they get assistance, they won’t even be able to pay their rent much less all the other expenses a family of five has.
Please help them out in any way you can. Any donation helps.
Thank you!
