Help the Birdsong Family during Dakota's Healing Journey

The purpose of this fundraiser is to alleviate some of the stress and financial burden brought on by this unforeseen life event. This fund will help Don and Toni stay above water, pay various bills, therapies and medical expenses while they navigate these uncertain times.

As many of you know, Dakota was involved in a devastating motorcycle accident on Monday, December 9th, when a commuter bus pulled out and stopped suddenly in front of him. He has sustained a traumatic brain injury, underwent two surgeries to address internal injuries, and required an extensive orthopedic surgery to repair multiple fractures throughout his body, plus many fractures that will heal on their own.

Dakota’s strength and determination are truly remarkable and he has already made progress that has exceeded his medical team’s expectations.

While he has been moved out of the ICU, which is an incredible milestone, he will remain in the hospital until he is medically ready to transition to a neuro/physical therapy unit. This therapy will be a long and challenging journey, likely lasting many months. This experience has been overwhelming for the family as they begin to process the immediate and long-term challenges Dakota will be facing.

The outpouring of love and generosity from friends and family has been deeply moving and heartwarming. However, as this situation continues to unfold, it’s become clear that Dakota will need significant financial support in the coming weeks and months. Unfortunately, insurance will not cover all of the therapy sessions he requires, and Don and Toni will also need to take extended time off work to care for and support him. If you are able to contribute anything, no matter how small, it would mean the world to Don and Toni during this unimaginably difficult time.
