We are The Bibliophiles! Our book club has been together (with varying rosters) for close to 13 years!! We have read a little bit of everything and have shared much time discussing literary delights.
Our most recent read was A Long Walk to Water By: Linda Sue Park. This is a true story about a young man named Salva Dut and the journey that lead him away from war, across Africa and ultimately to Rochester, NY. His resiliency and experiences are awe inspiring and moved us all quite deeply. We all relished in this story and found much gratitude in our own lives. We would highly recommend anyone read this book that is over the age of 9.
Salva is the founder of the non-profit organization Water For South Sudan. At The Bibliophiles' most recent meeting we had a visit from the organization's Operations Support Coordinator, Gary Pok. Gary shared more about the organization's work and mission. They have built and repaired hundreds of wells in South Sudan which has provided ready and safe access to water for hundreds of thousands of individuals. In providing clean water sources, communities are healthier and better equipped to grow in positive ways such as building latrines and schools.
Our Club has decided to band together for the Summer of 2025 to try to raise money to help support their efforts. Our hope is to raise enough funds to build A Bibliophiles Well!! A full well typically costs around $15,000. However, any proceeds raised will be put to good use in this meaningful organization. Please check out their link below for more information about the great work they do and consider contributing what you can! Everyone deserves access to clean and safe water!
