Help the Bee's Knees Navigate Treatment and Recovery!

Hello!
We are Candice Zaina and Sue Littleton. Along with our son Sid, we are The Bee's Knees.
We have spent the past two years pouring every ounce of love and energy into building The Bee's Knees General, more than a bakery or cafe, it has become a true community hub where we make great coffee and baked from scratch every day while creating programming that encourages meaningful connection across generations.
A couple of weeks ago we received the news that Candice has Melanoma. Receiving a cancer diagnosis is always scary and stressful and luckily we have every reason to believe that this is going to be treatable and that Candice is going to be okay but there are more procedures and possible treatment ahead and we need some help.
We are a small, family-run business and we've (perhaps foolishly!) put all our resources into making this amazing space work. We need a little help from our amazing community to keep things flowing while we make sure that Candice gets the medical treatment and recovery time that they need. We have grand plans to continue to build community and offer delicious options to the folks in this region, but we need to take a few weeks off. Candice's next procedure is happening in Halifax on September 6th and we will be closing our shop for two weeks following the surgery.
The funds raised will help us to ensure that we can sustain this business (and our amazing employees) while Candice take as much time as needed to recover and so that Sue can care for our little family without also trying to keep the bakery rolling. We will have to drive to the city frequently and we all know how quickly filling the tank adds up. As self-employed folks, we have no medical coverage and medications and physio are going to get expensive very quickly.
All help is greatly appreciated.
Any additional funds raised will go towards growing our community programming and offering delicious and fun events for folks in the Annapolis Valley for many years to come. We have plans for more music, more pop up dinners, a comedy show and so much more.
We know this healing time will allow us to come back even stronger and ready to continue to serve this wonderful region.
