Help "The Bean" Kitties Beat FIP
Donation protected
Hi! I am a volunteer with Shuswap Paws Rescue and we need your help! Last week we got a call from a contact in Lloydminster, Alberta, letting us know that there were three kittens that were going to be euthanized because they have FIP.
FIP stands for Feline Infectious Peritonitis, which is a mutation of the feline coronavirus. Up until the last 4 years, FIP was fatal in cats, as there was no cure. In 2019, a treatment came available on the black market, however, it was (and continues to be) very expensive. Back in 2020, we successfully treated a foster with FIP with the help of your donations. We are again asking for your help so we can treat these three kittens in the photo, affectionately known as "the Beans".
Rewind to last week...as previously mentioned, we received a call from our contact asking if we would take these kittens. We had them rushed to the vet and had blood work done which confirmed that all three have FIP. Through a facebook site for FIP support, we connected with some incredible people. An hour later, we had heard from someone saying they would foster for us, however, they live 6 hours away in Lethbridge, Alberta. We were able to get a volunteer to drive the Beans to a half way point, another volunteer drove to the half way point to pick up the Beans and bring them to our foster. The foster was able to treat them with emergency medication while we applied to have the kittens join an FIP study. The study will run for the next 15 months and the treatment is much less expensive. The study consists of daily weigh ins, blood work at certain points during and after the treatment and medication for the next 84 days, followed by an observation period of another 84 days. We are so grateful to our foster for taking these little Beans on, caring for, and treating them. In order to cure these babies, we are gratefully requesting financial support to cover the cost of treating Cannellini, Lima and Fava.
