Holy New Heart, Batman! Major medical setbacks and moving expenses have stretched Miranda's family precariously thin. I am asking my community to help me support my friend through difficult times. After Thirteen years renting the same home in Texas, Miranda’s father (affectionately, known as Batman) was notified his home had been put up for sale. On very short notice, Batman packed up his cave and headed back to California to live near his only child, Miranda, and her children. Within three weeks of his arrival, while driving to Portland to celebrate the life of a recently passed loved one, Miranda noticed that her Papa was very unwell. She identified

Batman's symptoms as being consistent with Congestive Heart Failure. Promptly upon returning to California she sent her Batdad to the emergency room.

His condition was far worse than anyone anticipated, and after two weeks in the local hospital. Batman was transferred to UCSF. He underwent open heart surgery for a double bypass and grafting. While constructing batman's new arteries, the surgeons also discovered and repaired a defect in one of the chambers of his heart that had gone unnoticed since birth. The surgery was a success, and after a month in hospital, Batman is home. He faces a long recovery. His medical issues will not allow him to return to his career driving the Big Trucks, which he has done for more than thirty years. Batman has always worked hard, always helped his daughter, family, and friends when they needed it.

Now Miranda must take care of her Papa. Miranda works multiple jobs and long hours to support her children as their sole provider and sends monthly financial support to her

stepson in college. Batman will be unable to work in any capacity for the foreseeable future. California and Texas have both denied his applications for disability because of a dispute about residency due to his very recent move. The appeals process will take weeks or maybe months and may still not result in an approval for payment by either state.

In the meantime. Miranda is
