Help the Bass Family Get Home

Hello friends, family, and kind-hearted supporters,

This is incredibly humbling for us to share, but at this point, it is necessary.

We have been mostly absent from social media for the past couple of months as we’ve tried to gather our composure while quietly navigating a series of overwhelming life events. We don’t often speak publicly about our struggles because we strive to remain humble and live in gratitude. We know everyone carries their own burdens. We are hopeful optimists, and until now, we’ve asked for nothing more than prayers for strength.

Today, we are asking for help.

We are the Bass Family, and we are urgently raising funds to return home from Washington State to North Carolina so we can care for our aging mother and rebuild our lives.

How We Got Here

We came to Washington with the promise of purchasing land and building a stable future. Unfortunately, that opportunity fell through. Instead, we found ourselves in a temporary living situation while trying to gather the resources to return home to North Carolina.

Then Hurricane Helene blocked our route back, forcing us to remain through the winter. We did what we had to do — found work, paid bills, and survived — but surviving is not the same as moving forward. The work we found allowed us to get by, but not to save enough to leave.

During this time, our primary work and tow vehicle — my husband’s truck — suffered a catastrophic transmission failure. The repair cost was over $7,000, which was simply out of reach. Just before that, we had already spent over $4,000 repairing our Subaru’s power steering system and replacing all four wheel bearings.

With only one small vehicle left — a Subaru — we lost our ability to tow our camper, haul equipment, bid jobs, or transport belongings. Our income dropped drastically. Eventually, we were forced to sell the truck just to survive. We now have no vehicle capable of moving our camper or household, and storage costs continue to add pressure.

Our camper has been our home for the past 18 months — supporting our work, travel, homesteading, and permaculture education journey — but it has become extremely difficult to sell. We have exhausted all options.. something we never imagined we would face.

This is humbling.

This is hard.

But family matters more than pride.

Why We Need to Go Home

My mother is no longer physically able to care for our family property in North Carolina. She has already undergone one knee replacement and now urgently needs the second. In her early 70s, maintaining land alone is no longer sustainable.

She needs us. And we need to be there.

We long to return home, tend our own gardens again, rebuild our homestead, and continue the life of service, land stewardship, and community support that has always defined our path.

Over the past six years, our work helped build farms, gardens, homesteads, and regenerative systems across Western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina, and East Tennessee. Now, it is time to rebuild our own foundation — and care for family.
