Help The Barry Family Recover From Fire
Along with the tragedy next door, my best friend, Nina Barry, and her family’s house was severely damaged from a 4 alarm fire, resulting in their home being completely uninhabitable. Although exterior damage may not look as bad as next door, the house is facing extensive disparities within, and will need a tremendous amount of work done. They have lost nearly all of their belongings from carcinogens and smoke damage.
For the past two weeks, the Barry’s have been homeless, and completely displaced. They are currently looking for a temporary place to stay, and are facing an immense amount of emotional and financial stress.
While setting up for her little sister, Gia’s, 8th grade graduation party, the fire began to consume the house next door. Nina and her boyfriend bravely put their lives in danger and ran inside the burning house to evacuate her neighbors, and even saved the family dog. Nina suffered from burns on her feet from running through the fire barefoot as well. The chief of the Nassau County fire district stated that Nina is one of the bravest people he has ever met, considering she is a 19 year old girl who ran inside one of the worst fires he has seen in over 30 years with no consideration for her own safety.
As someone who saved 3 lives that day, and many lives from experiencing an even worse tragedy, Nina is a hero, and her and her family do not deserve to face such devastation. The Barry family is extremely grateful for any donations to help them get through this very trying time.
