Help the Barretts Recover from Medical and Home Crises

Hi! My name is Misty Barrett and I'm the mother of a cardiac arrest survivor x2, Luke Barrett. My family's life changed dramatically on January 8, 2024, when Luke suffered his first cardiac arrest at school. The school nurse and teachers saved his life with CPR and the use of an AED. I was out of work for about a week while we were in a hospital in Charleston where Luke was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He then had an internal cardiac defibrillator surgically placed. Fast forward to the end of March. My daughter was in the hospital CVICU for 7 days with diabetic ketoacidosis and pancreatitis, causing me to be out of work again.

Then, in April, we had a situation with our washing machine flooding our downstairs. We hired a contractor to do what we thought would be a pretty minor fix. Well, the contractor discovered rotten floors as well as mold in the living room, dining room, kitchen, and stairwell. The mold is very horrible and toxic to our health, especially to Luke.

On June 3rd, Luke suffered his second cardiac arrest. I was home with him and performed CPR until EMS arrived. His defibrillator did not work properly, so he had to have a revision. Once again, I was out of work. Then in July, my husband had to have an emergency appendectomy and was out of work for 2 weeks himself. Now we just found out that our upstairs AC unit needs replacing! It is a 1990 model.

Our family has definitely been hit hard without a chance to bounce back. I ended up having to borrow money on our home, as well as using up my entire savings from inheritance, and borrowing money from a family member, but this was still not enough to cover the cost of the repairs needed. We have run out of resources to finish repairing our home to make it healthy for us and for Luke. We would appreciate any support you can provide to help us.
