Help the Baez Family Through Miguel's Recovery

Dear Education Family and Friends,

We have created this page for our dear friend and coworker, Ana Baez (who’s a teacher), and her husband, Miguel Baez. A family of 5, with 3 children and both in their 40’s. Early this year 2024, Baez (as we dearly call her) expressed that her husband, Miguel, hadn’t been feeling well and as time went by his symptoms got worst! Some of us were able to see him in June at their daughter’s 15th b-day and were in awe to see how his appearance had changed as he had lost weight and looked unhealthy. That evening Baez was only able to express with tears in her eyes her anguish about Miguel’s health. Days and weeks went by and Miguel continued to get more symptoms and kept getting more sick. At the beginning, it was just doctor’s visits but soon enough it was hospital visits in and out. He was first hospitalized for a pneumonia but didn’t get better and he was kept in the hospital for many days. Miguel was having difficulties walking, breathing, and eating! An everyday activity was not possible for him. Besides the pneumonia, doctors could not find what was his diagnosis as he kept getting worse. After 7 months since everything started, Miguel was finally diagnosed with a rare infection in his body. And he is back home with a feeding tube in his stomach and learning to do the most simple activities all over again. Unfortunately, Miguel lost his job when his sickness started which left Baez being the only one who brought income in their household. Many bills have accumulated and Miguel’s health is still not stable and is still under medical treatment.
