Help Me Fight a Rare Genetic Disease – Only 8 of Us in the World

Hello everyone,

My name is Asil Atasoy, and I was born on July 25, 2023. I’m writing to you with the hope that you can help give me a chance at a healthier life.

I was born with an extremely rare genetic mutation called ACO2 deficiency — so rare that only 8 people in the world are known to have it. This condition affects a gene that helps create an enzyme called aconitase, which plays a vital role in the mitochondria, our body’s energy producers. Because my body can’t produce enough energy, every part of me is affected — my eyes, my muscles, my brain, and more.

Have almost no muscle strength, very limited movement, and very poor eyesight. I suffer from more than 10 seizures every single day. For the past 9 months, I’ve been living in the hospital, fighting hard with the help of my loving family and doctors.

There is hope. To get better with special medicines and vitamins, I have a real chance to get better — to regain some strength, reduce my seizures, and maybe one day go home. But this treatment is very expensive and beyond what my family can afford.

Both of my parents had to quit their jobs to stay by my side and care for me full-time. They are doing everything they can — but now, we are asking for help from kind hearts like yours.

Special equipment and long-term treatment
