Hi everyone,
My name is Lucas Brito. I’m 27 years old, a husband, a father, and a professional jiu-jitsu athlete at Gracie Barra. Today, I want to share my story with you—not just the highs, but the struggles that have tested my spirit and pushed me to grow stronger.
Eight months ago, my life took an unexpected turn. During training, I suffered a devastating knee injury: a complete rupture of my ACL, a grade 3 injury to my medial collateral ligament, a torn lateral meniscus, joint effusion, and more. In an instant, everything I had worked for—the hours on the mat, the sacrifices—was in jeopardy.
I was forced to step away from the sport I love. For two months, I couldn’t train, couldn’t compete, and honestly, I questioned everything. I couldn’t afford surgery right away, so I adapted. I found a way to train through the pain and reinvented my game. Somehow, through sheer determination and faith, I clawed my way back.
Despite the challenges, 2024 became a year of triumph in the face of adversity. I became the IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con NO-GI Champion in Las Vegas, earned victories at several IBJJF GI and NO-GI Opens, and even claimed second place at ADCC Miami. But behind every medal was pain—physical, emotional, and financial.
Now, my injury has worsened. My knee locks, my leg won’t fully straighten, and the pain has become unbearable. My only option is surgery, scheduled for January 13th. Without it, I can’t continue my career.
This is where I need your help.
I live in the United States with my wife and our beautiful daughter, far from our family in Brazil. Surgery means medical expenses not covered by insurance, and months of physical therapy and recovery.
Asking for help isn’t easy for me. But this isn’t just about me—it’s about my family, my dreams, and the promise I’ve made to myself to never give up, no matter how hard life gets.
To everyone who has supported me, who has cheered for me, who believes in me—I’m deeply grateful. Your encouragement has been my lifeline. If you feel moved to contribute, no matter how small, know that you’re helping me stand up again—literally and figuratively.
I will come back stronger. I will fight for my dreams, for my family, and for everyone who believes in the power of resilience. Nothing is impossible for someone who dares to dream.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Lucas Brito.
