Hi there, my name's Kaniesha, and I'm setting up this fundraiser on behalf of my mother and me.
We're both disabled, and we need to find a new place for us and our two chihuahuas to live, as well as replace nearly everything we own when we eventually find a new home.
Over the last 6 weeks, we've been dealing with an infestation of bedbugs in our apartment. The infestation originated in the apartment below us last year and was so bad that it has spread to our unit. We're currently facing challenges with the property owners who say that we're at fault despite them not informing us of the infestation until January of this year. Needless to say, we're currently trying to find a new place to live, which is providing its own challenges due to our limited income.
This Thursday (March 3rd) will be the third fumigation in an attempt to treat this, and while it's appreciated that treatment is being provided, living through this process is quite the nightmare.
After the first round of fumigation, the bugs have started coming out from the doorframes, the baseboards, the electric outlets, and anywhere else there's a slight hole or crack. They are on the floors, the walls, the counters, and anywhere else you can imagine. The mental toll of constantly seeing bugs in your home is something I would never have thought could be so taxing.
The state of your home while living through a process like this is a whole other issue. Everything you own is piled into the center of the room, in bins, in bags. There are poison drips and stains all over your walls and furniture. Some of your furniture is damaged due to coming in contact with the poison. Everything is a mess. You feel like you're squatting in your own home.
Because the infestation is so bad, and the exterminators say that the bugs can hide anywhere the width of a piece of paper- when we move, we will have to throw away and replace almost everything we own.
This is a substantial financial burden that we can't afford but need to take on.
Any help we get from this fundraiser will go to recuperating the costs from:
- the junk removal services to have our broken/potentially infested furniture taken away
- the monthly rent for a storage unit that we're using to store all of our clothes, blankets, and anything else fabric, and will be storing anything new we get, as well as any salvageable items from our home that we've thoroughly inspected to make sure they're bug-free
- the cost of washing/drying every piece of clothing/blanket/sheet/towel/fabric we own at a laundromat to ensure they're bug-free
- replacing my mother's bed (she has a motorized frame and special mattress to help with her MS)
- replacing my mother's recliner (also motorized to help manage the pain from her MS)
- replacing my desk and ergonomic chair (needed for managing my pain from my fibromyalgia)
- replacing the remainder of our furniture (my bed, our dining room table and chairs, our living chairs, wall units, storage cabinets, bookshelves, wardrobe, dressers, and more)
This entire process has been such an ordeal and at the suggestion of friends we're setting this up in an attempt to make this process a little easier. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our situation, we greatly appreciate it ♥
