Help The Araujo's With Kidney Transplant Recovery
Hi Friends,
As most of you know The Araujo's were faced with some very scary news recently; Matthew has been diagnosed with Stage 5 Kidney Failure. He is currently on dialysis and we are extremely hopeful for a living donor. Matthew is unable to work currently and as some of you may know Crystal is on leave and will be for the next year as they are expecting a baby in the coming weeks. That being said things have been very difficult and with everyone reaching out to help it has been overwhelming but we are forever grateful.
On June 1st, Matthew got a phone call from a kidney specialist after seeing a new endocrinologist. He was told he was in Stage 5 Kidney Failure and that it did not look good. Dialysis is an option and they were hoping they could start that after the baby was born and that his kidneys would hold up till then. A week and a half later the family had an orientation at RCH with bloodwork and tests and 5 minutes before arriving home they received a devastating phone call telling them to get to the hospital now as Matthew could have a stroke because of the toxin levels in his system. Matthew was immediately admitted within seconds of getting to RCH and they did emergency surgery through his neck inserting a tube to clean out his blood levels as fast as possible. He then spent 4 days at the hospital going through multiple rounds of hemodialysis and then received another surgery on his stomach to insert a tube to receive peritoneal dialysis from there. Matthew was released and brought home. His following steps consist of weekly bloodwork, 8 hours a day at RCH for dialysis and they are working on setting him up with at home dialysis. Dialysis is not a cure but it is the only option to keep him stable while awaiting a kidney.
Due to Matthews diabetes, kidney failure and health as well as Crystals gestational diabetes and pregnancy they're diet restrictions and needs are very specific at the moment. Neither one of them enjoys asking for sympathy or help but we know everyone is doing their best to be there for them.
I have created this GoFundMe in hopes that our village will help support them and overcome this challenging time. I understand not everyone is capable of donating large amounts as we're all doing our best to survive after this pandemic but even the smallest amount is forever appreciated.
From the bottom of our heart thank you, Words don’t describe how grateful Matthew, Crystal, Baby A, Dominic & Roman are for you.
All the Love,
Keeli (Godmother and The Araujo's adopted child)
