Help the Animals of Carriacou that survived hurricane Beryl
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Dr. Kenrith Carter. I am a veterinarian that owns a veterinary practice named Dr Carter Vet operating for the last 10 years in Grenada. I have been on the ground in Carriacou in the initial aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.
On 1st July 2024, Hurricane Beryl made landfall on the state of Grenada. The eye of the hurricane passed over our sister island of Carriacou causing catastrophic damages to the little island. The entire population of approximately 10,000 people were negatively impacted in one way or the other.
People lost their homes, others lost their livelihood, while some even lost their lives.
The animals of Carriacou were hit just as bad or even worst. Many lost their lives and many are still unaccounted for, others roam the streets (as they usually do) navigating this new reality.
Dr Carter Vet has a rich history of community outreach as well as on the ground experience in post-disaster veterinary relief. In 2017 Dr Carter went on a veterinary relief mission to the BVI after the passing of Hurricane Irma.
We are partnering with Dr Malcolm in the US to assist in accessing and transferring the funds since GoFundMe does not allow direct withdrawal of funds in Grenada. Dr Malcolm is Grenadian and has strong ties with Dr Carter Vet as well as the people of Carriacou.
Dr Carter Vet would have already donated $10,000 worth of veterinary medication and supplies to Carriacou in collaboration with Veterinary aid donated by other veterinarians from Grenada. However, there is not yet a framework to facilitate veterinary intervention, and thus we must prepare to return to the island ready as soon as things are in place.
Your donation will initally go towards the purchase and distribution of pet and livestock food as well as feed and water stations for poultry. In the coming weeks your donations will go towards the rebuilding of structures to house and shelter livestock and poultry.
Most of the people on Carriacou have lost their roofs or even their homes. We are aware that their initial concern will be to secure food and shelter for themselves and their families, so we are stepping in to assist where and when we can with the animals.
