It is with humble and grateful hearts that the Anderson family is reaching out for help in a time of need. Some of you may know Animal Control Officer Kate Anderson who works for Manhattan Beach. She has been with the city as a Community Service Officer since 2019 and, until recently, also served the U.S. Army as a MEDEVAC helicopter pilot.
We’re coming together now to seek assistance for Kate and her wife, Secily, who have befallen a tragic circumstance of military records mishandling their family insurance status. While Secily underwent multiple life-saving surgeries these past few years, the Andersons relied on an Army insurance provider. When Kate retired in 2023 at the end of her deployment, Secily began to recover from spinal surgery only to find out she had cancer. In short, the Andersons are faced with a detrimental amount of medical bills, incurred from the cancer treatments and surgeries. Unless they amass enough funds to back-pay on the insurance plan they thought they were paying for all along, the family faces medical bankruptcy.
Our goal is set to raise at least $8,500 as fast as we can to cover the back-pay on medical insurance before Monday August 1, 2024. This is the deadline given to the family if they want to maintain insurance that covers Secily’s cancer diagnosis and removal this last year. Our greater goal is set to raise as much as we can to offset the out-of-pocket medical expenses the couple have endured in their search for answers.
Kate and Secily reluctantly agreed to a GoFundMe, but in the face of so much hardship while also still being surrounded by the beautiful city they call home, they felt compelled by friends and coworkers to give the community a chance to help. From the bottom of their hearts, thank you for your time, consideration, and any amount you choose to give.
