My name is Pat. My husband and I are helping a refugee family resettle in the metropolitan D.C. area. The family arrived in early July on a Special Immigrant Visa and were resettled in Prince Georges County, Maryland by Lutheran Social Services. Their lives were in danger because of the father's work with international aid groups. Family members other than the mother speak English and are educated. The family is wonderful, very warm, very polite and very appreciative. They are actively seeking employment but, as you can imagine, it is more difficult since they are newcomers and immigrants. Current resettlement funds to cover rent and a food subsidy end in mid-October. Other upcoming needs will be winter clothes, coats, shoes, and bedding.
