Help the Alvarez Family-Cancer Treatment

Donation protected

Manny and Shannon Alvarez are two of the most generous and loving people you will ever meet. They are filled with compassion for orphans and others in need.

Married since 2004, they have 5 children and 1 grandson. Their children were all adopted through foster care in the USA. In 2018 they moved as a family to Guatemala to work with Hope for Home Ministries who provide foster care for special needs orphans.

Manny runs the rural ministry for Hope for Home Ministries which supplies nutrition, medical support, and wheelchairs to some of the poorest people in Guatemala. They also have four special needs orphans in their home. The needs of these children run from Autism to very severe Microcephaly. Fostering in Guatemala is not like fostering in the 1st world. Here the foster parents receive NO support from the government. They pay for everything from food, clothes, housing, to special doctors, therapies and even the social worker who represents these children to the court.

The Alvarez family has had their share of loss here. Last year their first Guatemalan foster child passed away from her congenital disabilities. She’d been a beloved child of this family for over two years. I’ve never known a more loved child in any foster home.

Last year Manny went to the dentist for a broken tooth. The dentist found a concerning spot on his jaw. It was biopsied and found to be cancerous. More tests and scans later discovered a mass in his stomach. This was also removed and he began a treatment program in the USA. Recently, they were told the cancer is still there and spreading. Today he is preparing to undergo surgery to remove lymph nodes for biopsy. There is concern that the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes.

Manny is a 50 year old father, grandfather, missionary, a beloved son, brother and friend. I’ve seen him talk to people on the streets of Guatemala who live in abject poverty because of disabilities or circumstances and Manny thinks nothing of handing them 100Q (or $13). More than many make in two days of working here. We need Manny Alvarez in this world. His family and the orphans he loves as his own children need their father.

Please help. Every $1 raised will go to pay for cancer treatment and/or travel to receive cancer treatment. Share this campaign with your friends. Ask you friends, your family, your churches to pray. Let’s help this family who gives so much of themselves away everyday.
