The last attempt to escape death here in Gaza

Donation protected
My name is Philippa and I am raising funds for Fawzy and his family to survive in Gaza. I have detailed how the funds will be used at the end of this message.

Please see Fawzy's story below:

My name is Fawzy Fouad Al-Midana, I am 28 twenty-eight years old, and I have two children: Basma and Ghazal

My father died a year ago, and my mother despairs with me. She is sixty-eight years old.
Thank God, our house is full of love, passion, and dreams. Our house is full of my mother’s prayers
But everything turned upside down after 7/10/2023
My mother lost her brothers and their children in the occupation’s bombing of Gaza City. We, as a family, lost our warm home, full of love and memories. We were displaced outside Gaza City towards the south of the city, and then all our wealth, including clothes and furniture, was stolen.

Everything we owned became memories. We did not ask for anything more than to live in peace, but the God of War was his Another opinion. We have lost loved ones and friends, and I have even lost my job, which used to bring me money to prepare for living with my family in peace. I lost everything during the last four months, but we thank God for everything.

Hence, I did not ask for much. I want your help to complete the remaining dreams of my two daughters, who are not more than three years old. I would just like to take them with my mother and their mother to a safe place outside the Gaza Strip, to escape from the bitter reality, to escape from death. I have no income, and food and water for me and my family is expensive in the strip. So I want to help me get out of this hell and live in peace, just in peace.

For donor transparency (August 22nd):
I have raised the goal to £50k, as Israel show no signs of withdrawing from the Rafah crossing. This £15k will go towards medication for Fawzy’s mother who has been diagnosed with osteoporosis, and towards food and basic necessities for Fawzy and his family. The Almidanas have been displaced again from the apartment in Deir Al-Balah, and thanks to you have been able to purchase a tent. However your help is needed still, as they are suffering in unbearable heat with infections and the constant threat of the occupation.

FOR DONOR TRANSPARENCY (May 6th 2024):
For full transparency for you as donors, Fawzy has raised and paid the fees for evacuation. Unfortunately, since Israel has seized the Rafah crossing and started bombing the area, his family have been displaced. He and his family's names are some of the very first on the list for evacuation, however during this excruciating situation, Fawzy has to pay $800 a month to keep an apartment he has secured in Deir Al-Balah, so his children do not have to sleep in tents, and after his mother was hospitalised, cover the medical fees.

Our arrangement for transferring funds:
  • I wait until I receive £4,000 in transfers from GoFundMe.
  • I use Western Union to transfer the full amount I receive from GoFundMe, as a cash pick-up, to a close friend of Fawzy's friend based in the Middle East (I have this person's full name and details and will not share this to respect their privacy).
  • Fawzy's friend then takes the cash to his bank and initiates a transfer. After some commission is taken off, Fawzy receives the money directly in his bank outside.
  • So far, Fawzy has received one transfer, and two days ago I initiated the second, which he expects to receive in the next few days. We are currently promoting as much as possible in order for me to initiate a third transfer by Friday 10th May at the very latest.
Why we are using this method:
  • I cannot send money directly to Fawzy, because the only option for WU in Palestine is cash pick-up. It would be extremely unsafe for Fawzy to carry this money in cash due to the lack of infrastructure and the high cost of basic necessities.
  • While commission still gets taken off during this process, it is less than what companies such as PayPal deduct from a transfer.
  • To ensure there is trust I have documents of everyone involved, and am in communication with Fawzy every day. He shares photos regularly of him and his children from before this genocide started and he keeps us updated. Fawzy's friend has not taken any money from the cash-pick ups he has collected from me, all of it has gone to Fawzy.

Anything you can spare to help the Almidanas evacuate is hugely appreciated. Thank you for your time and your generosity.
