A Message from Mohammed – From the Heart of Gaza

We are a family of eight: my parents, me, and my five brothers: Ayoub, Abdullah, Bahaa, Ashraf, and Karim. We are a close-knit family, with different dreams in our hearts, but we always live as one, never splitting up in the face of adversity.

At the beginning of the war, we opened our home to families displaced from devastated areas, but the occupying forces soon destroyed our home. We were asked to flee to the south, but we decided to stay in northern Gaza. There, we experienced the worst that a human being can endure: siege, hunger, and a prolonged lack of water and food for months.

We ate animal feed to keep the children alive, while prices were skyrocketing and our money had been completely depleted. We had no choice but to wait... or die.

We were besieged twice:

  • The first time, we were besieged for 14 days, without seeing the sun or a drop of water. We saw death with our own eyes... but miraculously, we survived.
  • The second time was during Ramadan. We were waiting for Suhoor, when suddenly the night turned into hell: gunfire, shelling, and tanks surrounded Al-Shifa Hospital. We stayed there for eight days, then we were arrested. We were humiliated, tortured, and everything we owned was stolen. All we had left was a phone and some identification papers.

But the pain didn't stop there...

  • My grandfather was martyred during displacement, and his body remained missing under the rubble for four months until we found his bones.
  • My grandmother died due to the destruction of hospitals and the lack of treatment.
  • My aunt, who was disabled, died of starvation.
  • My close friend Hassan was martyred when his tent was bombed.
  • The list of loved ones we've lost is endless.

October 7th was supposed to be a special day in my life, a graduation day I celebrated after years of hard work and dedication. But the war left no room for joy, turning my life upside down. This long-awaited day turned into a painful memory when I lost everything: my dreams, my hopes, and the future I had been building with such passion. Despite it all, I never lost hope. I believe that difficult times do not last, and that dawn will rise again, filling our lives with joy and hope.

I used to work as a graphic designer, and I had a great passion for this field. I was building my future step by step, dreaming of leaving a mark, achieving self-realisation, and being a source of pride for my family. But the war destroyed my work, extinguished my dreams, and forced me to start from scratch amidst destruction and despair.

Our home is now nothing but ruins and shattered memories. Its corners were reduced to rubble, and everything we cherished was taken from us. Every corner held a story, and every wall that bore witness to happy days is now a painful memory that encapsulates the magnitude of the loss we have suffered.

A heartfelt plea:

In these unbearable circumstances, I turn to you with all my heart's hope.

Any support—even a word, a prayer, or a financial contribution—is a lifeline for my family.

Every donation, no matter how small, makes a real difference and helps us survive and carry on.

I thank everyone who reads my words, who opens their hearts to us, who sympathises with us from afar.

You are our hope in this darkness. You are the hand that could save a life.

May God reward you with all goodness and grant you double reward and goodness.

A word from Mohammed's friends abroad:

We are based in Spain, my name is Julia, and we have been in touch with Mohammed for over a year now, through every single tragedy he and his family have suffered. We are trying to help them stay alive until Israel allows aid and food back into Gaza. Funds will be collected and sent to Mohammed via PayPal.

Seriously, even 1 euro helps, even if you think you can only give what seems insignificant, it really, really does help.

We thank you deeply ❤️
