Help the al-Din al-Baroud Family Rebuild Their Lives
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Cassidy and I am fundraising on behalf of the Nour al-Din al-Baroud family, living in North Syria (Idlib) camps. This is their story.
This family was one of the lucky ones who survived displacement and have been able to support each other through thirteen years of living in a tent on the border of Turkey.
The children have never seen their original country or their home in Syria. They have suffered greatly and lost so much of their livelihood. Nour al-Din, 39, (father) used to work selling fruits and vegetables from his car and their mother, age 32, was in her third year of secondary school (final year of highschool) but they could not continue due to the war. In 2011 a plane destroyed their home and they were forced to flee with nothing, not even a change of clothes. The family has lost everything, their car, their job, their home and all of their belongings.
Recently (May 2024), the family has been blessed to be able to move to a camp with improved conditions thanks to the kindness and generosity of a UK donor. However, they still live without many basic necessities. They have one small cement room with a canvas roof that leaks during the cold, rainy winters (11℃, 52℉) and gets extremely hot in summer (48℃, 118℉) and there is no heat or air conditioning. There is also no plumbing and they rely on solar panels for electricity. The water access is only on for ten minutes a day, which is not enough for a family of six (including a newborn!) and when they run out of water they have to buy it. They do not have a bathroom and must fill up bowls of water to bathe. The family sleeps on the cement floor with a thin foam pad and have not slept in a bed since they were displaced thirteen years ago. They do not own an oven or a refrigerator and they cook outside over an open fire.
Would you believe me if I told you that this family is still smiling? Because they are! In the face of suffering they are still spreading love and kindness. They also show their generosity everyday sharing what little they have with the cats who have been left stranded or neglected. This sweet family deserves so much more. They have a lot of needs but have prioritized a few for this campaign.
The family needs a car. They need a roof that will withstand the elements and protect them, along with some other home repairs. They are in dire need of supplies for their children as they just had a new baby (June 2024). They will also need an oven and a refrigerator to provide for their growing family. They need many basic items like food and clothing. The oldest daughters wish to pursue higher education in order to help others who suffer injustices and also provide for their family and end the cycle of poverty. They will only be able to do this with help from compassionate humans like yourself.
This innocent family has endured so much suffering that was caused by no fault of their own. We don’t always get to choose where we live, but we do get to choose how we live. You can help this family by donating to this gofundme campaign and/or sharing the fundraiser link with your friends and family. “Thank you so much for all of your donations and for sharing our story. We are eternally grateful to you!”- the Nour al-Din al-Baroud family
