Hello and Asalaamu Alaikum, my name is Zubair, and I’m starting this campaign on behalf of my dear friend — a refugee from Gaza now living in Toronto — whose family is enduring unimaginable suffering back home in Gaza.

His parents, siblings, and their children are among the many innocent civilians caught in the crossfire of the ongoing war. The Al-Batrawi family has lost everything. Their home was destroyed. Their car, their belongings — all gone. They now live in a makeshift tent, struggling daily for the most basic necessities: food, water, and medical care.

Here’s what they’re facing right now:

Ten family members — including elderly parents, five daughters, their husbands, and young children — are crammed into one tent.

They have no consistent access to food. Some days, they’re lucky to get a loaf of bread.

Clean water is almost non-existent, and the family has suffered from intestinal and liver-related illnesses due to water contamination and malnutrition.

The father suffers from severe diabetes and high blood pressure but has no access to insulin or medication.

The mother has high blood pressure and osteoporosis, also without any treatment.

The family tragically lost an 11-year-old grandson during Ramadan — killed while trying to find food. His younger brother was also injured by shrapnel.

Two close relatives have died because they couldn’t get medical treatment — one from a heart condition, another killed in the violence.

Meanwhile, their son — my friend here in Toronto — has lost everything himself: his home, his car, his job. Despite his own hardships, he is doing everything he can to support his family from afar. But he can’t do it alone.
