The Aguas' youngest son, Malachi Jude, is preparing for the final stage of surgery (for the foreseeable future) in his heart journey: the Fontan procedure. Kai was born with a complex congenital heart defect (a single ventricle defect: PAIVS) and has already undergone two heart surgeries.

The Fontan procedure is a specialized surgery for children with single-ventricle heart defects. It reroutes blood flow to the lungs without passing through the non-functional right ventricle, allowing the heart to work more efficiently and get more oxygen into the blood. Kai’s surgery is set for Friday, June 13, followed by a monitoring and recovery period in the hospital. Then, once he’s stable enough, recovery at home for the rest of the summer. The family would love prayer as the day approaches, and for the unknowns of the recovery period.

As they navigate this journey, they are looking for support to help cover medical expenses, travel costs, and costs surrounding their stay in the hospital ($10,000). Anything above this goal will go to invest in future needs for Malachi. Your generosity will ease the financial burden and allow them to focus on Malachi’s healing and well-being this summer. They have been overwhelmed with gratitude by the love and support they have received from family, friends, and local church throughout this journey with Kai.
