Salwa Najjar is a Palestinian living and working in the United Kingdom and a dear friend. Salwa’s mother, father, siblings, and in-laws are all in Gaza and these past months have been some of the most unfathomably difficult times for her and her family. Of countless catastrophes, a particularly hard toll has been taken on the family business, owned by her brother-in-law, Karam.
Karam AbuOwda is a father of three beautiful baby girls and a loving husband to Ghada, who works hard to support his family. Their family, like all families, grew through good times and hard times with love. Karam is a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. After studying to become an electrical engineer, Karam spent his life bringing light to people’s lives - figuratively and literally.
After graduating and getting married, Karam started a business selling and installing electrical systems and solar panels for homes and businesses including hospitals and medical clinics. He also sold decorative fixtures for homes, bringing homes to life through light.
Everything that Karam had spent his life building, his livelihood and the only means he had of supporting his family, was destroyed. His store was targeted and completely destroyed by the military assault on Gaza. Electricity was cut off to Gaza and any chance at hope that Karam could have provided through his solar panels was taken when he found that they too had been targets of the assault and destroyed. Gaza, and Karam’s life work, was plunged into darkness.
Logien, Karam’s eldest daughter, loves rainbows and ponies. She draws colorful pictures and dreams of being a veterinarian. Logien’s name means silver, fitting because she is absolutely precious to her family. Toleen, Karam’s second daughter, lives to dance. Toleen, meaning moonlight, and brings another kind of light to life. Ward, Karam’s youngest, was born in July of 2023. Ward means flower and she is a resilient blossom.
Karam’s family has spent months living in a tent on the cold sand of Gaza’s winter.
Your contributions would help Karam feed his family and rebuild his store. Karem plans on heading to Gaza as soon as he is able to help his brother and his family. Your contribution will help feed Karem and Karam’s family in Gaza until we can rebuild his store and rebuild life.
Your donations, no matter how small, are important and will make an impact. You will be contributing to saving their lives. Please share this campaign widely to help us reach our goal so we can offer this chance. Even if you cannot donate, please share this with your network. No one can make a difference by themselves, but together we can each offer a hand in hard times.
