I’m Natashia. Karen Icasiano-Saxby was my sister-in-law, and a soul sister to me. Karen was beloved by so many of us. Her unexpected death on August 5th has devastated her family and all of us who loved her, her chosen family. She is survived by her loving husband and caregiver Shawn, and their 10-year old son Cheshire. Shawn continues to care for Cheshire and his elderly parents.

Karen was a partner, daughter, friend, mother, sister, sister-in-law, visual artist, writer, advocate and free spirit. Her love of life, of mischief, and her laughter has touched so many and changed so many lives for the better. She loved her family and friends intensely. She suffered for many years from health issues and chronic pain from dislocations and breaks from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and other issues, but endured for her family in the hope that someday she might get better. She passed August 5th, 2024 from complications of her health.

Shawn cared for her and cares for his family, but now needs help himself which is why I am introducing this appeal. Please donate if you can to help Karen's family, to pay for ongoing expenses, unplanned expenses, medical bills, and to tend to Cheshire’s special needs. Cheshire is non-verbal but intensely expressive, and Karen had so many plans and wishes for him to ensure a safe, adult life that Shawn wants to fulfill.
