Help Thandeka pay tuition at Oxford University

Hello, my name is Thandeka Chauke.

I have recently registered for a part-time Msc. in International Human Rights Law at the University of Oxford, and I need help paying my tuition.

I am a dedicated human rights lawyer and a passionate social justice advocate. I work at an organisation in South Africa called Lawyers for Human Rights, where I provide pro bono legal aid to vulnerable and marginalised individuals and communities on various human rights issues. My expertise is in statelessness, refugee rights and immigration justice. I also run a voluntary organisation that promotes the education and empowerment of migrant women and children living in poverty.

I aspire to eventually join the United Nations or a regional agency where I can invest in programs and policies to uplift vulnerable and marginalised African communities (mainly women and children). I was therefore excited to enrol for this programme at the University of Oxford as it will help me acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve this goal and expand my work's reach and impact.

I tried registering for the same programme in 2021 but could not proceed as I struggled to secure a scholarship or funding support. I discovered that most of the scholarships or funding support for UK universities were reserved for citizens of Commonwealth countries or full-time courses. This did not deter me from re-applying and registering this year; however, I am in the same predicament as I am still not eligible for any scholarships or funding support. The escalating cost of living and inflation in South Africa has also made it impossible for me to consider any sustainable self-funding options.

In view of this, I have launched this fundraising campaign to seek help paying my tuition.
