several months ago, thai’s catalytic converter was stolen out of their car.
the repair parts were finally delivered to the auto shop this week. they need immediate support to cover these costs upfront to re-secure safer and autonomous transportation.
these parts are particularly expensive due to CA state regulations around brand new catalytic converter replacements, extreme supply chain shortages, and inflation. they also have to cover any additional repairs and renew their registration upfront. itemized receipts are included for transparency.
while their vehicle was unexpectedly not driveable, thai had to use a rental vehicle long-term for a month while their in-person supports helped with transportation to their doctors' appointments and during their studio move. a minor accident occurred with someone else driving the rental vehicle that created additional fees that thai has to front for cosmetic damage.
since they have been without their personal vehicle, thai has been forced into the vulnerable position of relying on other people for rides to their critical doctors appointments and to get their medications from the pharmacy every month.
this adds an another layer of exposure and Covid risk for thai as an immunocompromised disabled person who is unable to be vaccinated due to their illnesses. they are bedbound and have hopes of being able to drive again. removing a disabled person’s access to their only means of safer transportation is life-threatening in innumerable ways amidst global pandemics, climate emergency, and racial capitalism.
this additional chronic stressor is further affecting thai’s health, which is already exacerbated due to multiple crises and in a precarious state, preventing them from focusing on their primary fundraising need — the medical dressings that are necessary for their survival. these funds do not cover even their basic living expenses and thai has had to fundraise nearly every day for three years due to medical neglect and ongoing trauma. for more details around their need for medical dressings, please visit and share their emergency medical dressings fund.
thank you for taking time to read. we ask that you please consider your privilege and if you are able to donate and/or share these asks so that thai may be able to attend their appointments with care.
