Let’s Help Thad Atkins Recover
Thad is the loving husband of Brenda; between the two of them, they have four children and several grandkids. Thad is an independent claim adjuster. When not handling claims, he is a residential contractor and remodeler. Thad enjoys fishing, reading, cooking on his Big Green Egg and enjoying time with family and friends. This fundraising effort is being initiated by a group of close friends of Thad and Brenda. Anyone who has ever met Thad considers themselves fortunate.
The morning of March 4, 2019 Thad suffered a massive, debilitating stroke.
Initially, he was rushed to a small local hospital that assessed the damage via numerous brain scans. During a video consult with doctors in Corpus Christi, Brenda was informed that he may have a chance if they could get him to a specialized center in Harlingen. Life-flight was not possible due to high winds. Thad was transported by ambulance; a long two hour trip. Time was obviously a critical factor.
Within 45 minutes of arriving at the center, Thad was rushed to the OR to relieve the blockage causing the stroke. The procedure was successful; blood flow was restored.
However, much damage had already been caused to the left hemisphere of his brain. The stroke left Thad with partial paralysis on his right side and without speech.
As we all know, insurance is great, but it won’t take care of everything. Donations to this cause will be used by Thad and Brenda to help bridge the gap. Contributions will be used for medical bills, the lengthy therapy and rehabilitation to restore mobility and speech, transportation to therapy/rehab sessions, orthotics, specialized bedding and essential needs at home while Thad recovers.
Those who know Thad understand the kind of man he is. He’s a humble, honest, God-fearing, patriot sort of guy. He’s the kind of guy that you’d like to have as a friend.
