My daughter Teyanna is currently studying at the University of North Carolina Charlotte majoring in Computer Science.

The study abroad program to which Teyanna has been accepted is Japanese Business and Culture in Tokyo. This four-week course, taught by Dr. Atsushi Sumi at Meiji University in Tokyo, Japan, is meant to teach students Japanese business culture and concepts. Students will meet one week prior to departure, spend two weeks in Tokyo, and follow up with one week of post-trip reporting sessions. During the program, students will visit Japanese businesses and explore Tokyo City during non-classroom hours. Donations will be used toward the cost of travel, instructional fees, program fees- which includes accommodations and some meals, and off-site meals.

As a Computer Science Major, her academic concentration is Gaming and Robotics; minoring in Japanese Language and Culture. After graduation Teyanna would like to consider employment in many different locations; including Japan which has a thriving technology industry. One reason she chose this study abroad program is that it provides an opportunity to learn more about the culture of Japan while increasing understanding of acceptable Japanese business culture. This program will allow her to continue growing in her knowledge and practice hearing and speaking in a natural environment. Lastly, having an opportunity to explore Tokyo, Japan will enrich her worldview and challenge her to go beyond her normal comfort.
